Eating Out in Berlin, Germany

Inside Aufsturz, Oraninenburger Strasse

More Berlin Photos
Berlin has restaurants to suit almost any taste. Each of the numerous nationalities living in Berlin has brought a taste of their own country with them. Turkish food is widely available here and Turkish 'Imbiss' stands can be found all over Berlin. Many stay open 24 hours. You can get cheap, tasty food from these stands. Try a Doner Kebab or Falafel for €2-€4.

There are also many fine Indian and Italian restaurants to be found in Berlin. If you're looking for budget eateries, try the Prenzlauer Berg or Mitte districts in East Berlin. Street vendors with a variety of cheap eats can be found in Alexanderplatz.

Open-air markets are another source of good quality, affordable food. Winterfeldpl opens every Saturday morning and has a lot to offer. For a more Turkish flavour, try the market in Kreuzberg on the banks of the Landwehrkanal. This opens every Friday.
But if during your visit you say to yourself “when in Rome …” and you want to sample some of Berlin’s local dishes, the selection is pretty healthy. Try Eisbein mit Sauerkraut und Erbsenpüree (pork knuckle with sauerkraut and mushy peas), bouletten (meatballs) or, for a special treat, currywurst (curried sausage).

For good local cuisine take time out to visit this eaterie which is particularly good for lunches. Meat is very prominent on the menu so vegetarians keep your distance!

  • Hard Rock Café

If you are in no mood to try something new or too exotic, the Hard Rock Café is always a safe bet serving burgers and french fries. The memoribilia on the walls is always interesting too.
